Gossen Bix 3/Scout 3 Exposure meter

Gossen Bix 3 exposure meter.

Small exposure meter, light-weight and portable, the Bix 3 exposure meter is a product of the Gossen company who also manufacture the world famous Lunasix, Sixtar, Sixon, Sixtomat and Sixtino exposure meters, the Sixticolor colour temperature meter and the Sixtron electronic flash meter as well as the special Labosix enlarging exposure meter.

The Bix 3 is a exposure meter with a match needle system and based on a Selenium sensor. Because  this meter has no light reducing filter that can be placed in front of the sensor, the exposure meter is made only for reflective light measurement. It is probably one of the first meters with the match needle system meaning the calculator disk has to be  turned until the needle with the slot is centered above the needle of the measurement system.

The Gossen Bix 3 is sold in the US as the Scout 3

How German is Gossen?

Some time ago I bought a box with a number of meters on the internet. One of these meters, not branded because the name plate was gone, attracted my attention but it did not ring a bell at that time.
Much later I ran into that same meter again and had a closer look at it. The back of the meter stated 'JAPAN' but still it bugged and me. I started looking trough my meter collection until I had the Bix 3 in my hand and here it was what me what bugged me all the time.
The nameless meter it was nearly an identical copy of the Gossen Bix 3 meter with only some minor differences. When I looked at the back of the Gossen Bix 3 and I found : made in Japan on the back! For pictures about this look down at this page.

On picture from the user guide you can see that the eye for the lanyard is exactly the same as from the nameless version but different from the Gossen version. The scale is different and the nameless version has 'math needle' on the dial.
